I remember John racing karts at New Egypt (along with some others who went on to be big names in area racing). He was so small at the time it looked like a helmet with 2 arms reaching up for the steering wheel, but he flew around the track. Later when I competed against him in asphalt modifieds at Flemington John sought me out to provide guidance on a brake issue my car had. (His advice helped!) During those years John pulled double duty at Flemington, driving the asphalt modified and a late model. He was always a threat to win in both divisions who could do amazing things with a race car.
