Jimmy "Showtime" Blewett, celebrating a birthday today.
Blewett 37, is the current point leader of the Freehold Ford Modified division with six main event victories includes; the Garden State Classic and the Woody's High Banks 105.
Last Saturdays victory, was an emotional one for Jimmy because, he dedicated it to his late brother John III who passed away ten years ago during a NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour event at Thompson Motorsports Park, he was 33.
Next Saturday, he'll be returning to race in a pair of 40 lap main events and, protect his point lead. In fact, he had won the crown twice in 2001 and 2002 in the family owned #76. He finished runner up in 2003, which marked his final season as a regular. From 2004 onward, he dabbled on the Nascar Whelen Modified tour with John III (raced regularly on the Tour). During his off times from the tour, he returned to Wall to compete for a victory. During 2009, he took time away from the tour to spend time with his family and focus on the junkyard business owned by his Grandfather John Sr.
In the 2010's, he took his career to the dirt circuit at New Egypt Speedway and Bridgeport. He had several wins on that circuit.
2016, he's returned to to his asphalt roots. Earlier that year, he recieved a phone call from Bob Garbarino to race his Mystic Missle on the Tour and, Blewett agreed. He finished sixth in points with one win and, he ran 17 out of the 18 scheduled events. He missed one Tour event which was held in Oswego due to illness but, Chuck Hossfeld was his substitute and finished sixth.
Now, he's returned to Wall Stadium on a regular basis for the first time since 2003. He is setting his signts on winning his third Wall crown since 2002.
