With the regular season concluded, the fans has a few weeks to relax.
The drivers as well has a few week to make adjustments to their cars and, preparing for the 44th Annual Turkey Derby which fall on November 24-26 during the daylight hours.
Pennsylvania native, Matt Hirschman will once again see dollar signs spinning in his sights. Hirschman 35, has been a major threat each and every Derby that he had participated. In fact, he still lives the moniker "Big Money" due to winning high paying events such as; capturing the Race of Champions for the fifth time this year with a whopping $13,000+. This year, Hirschman will be returning as the defending winner not one two Modified divisions.
Multi Time Winner, Jimmy Blewett is also a threat of adding a Derby to his resume. This year, he snagged his third Wall Stadium Modified championship for the first time since, winning it in 2001 and 2002. Blewett 37, will be prepping his championship winning #19 for the SK/Wall Modified and his familiar red, white, and blue #76 for the Tour Type Modified. He had won back to back Dirt Modifieds in the Jimmy Horton #43. Showtime, will keep you posted til the Derby if he'll run other cars.
Seventeen year old phenom, Blake Barney will be making a double assault in this years Derby. Barney, will be wheeling his Grandfather's familiar Big Red #14 in the Tour Type Modified and the SK/Wall Modified and, hoping to bring the machine to victory lane since Tony Siscone did in 1991 and Eric Mauriello in 2014.
2006 winner and two time track champion, Steven Reed will also pull a double assault this year like he did before. Last year, Reed shocked the crowd by timing first in the Tour Type Modified. Unfortunately, Reed was forced to watch the 150 lap contest from the sidelines when his pole sitting car broke a transmission. In the SK/Wall Mods, bad luck continues to haunt him. This year, he would hope to put those disappointments behind him.
Andrew Krause, will be pulling Triple Duty: Tour Modified, SK/Wall and, Dirt Modified.
Other drivers participated and would possibly do this year are; Les Hinckley, Jr. from Windsor Lock, CT, Tour Champion Doug Coby, Brian DeFebo, Woody Pitkat and, other drivers from PA, NY, CT would like to take a crack at the Derby. Unfortunately, according to the comments from my TD Trailer; 1981 Champion Jamie "The Jet" Tomaino won't be able to participate this year.
The Derby, will have an action packed schedule: SK/Wall Modified, Tour Type Modified, Dirt Modified, Sportsman, Limited Late Model, Legends, Factory Stocks, 4 Cylinders, ATQMRA.
