This coming Saturday, the drivers will have one more chance, to test their machines for the 45th annual Turkey Derby which will be held on November 23-25th during the daylight hours. Practice is F.O.C.
This Thanksgiving Tradition, Fall Classic, or Thanksgiving Classic had been held since 1974 and it was won by regular track king Gil Hearne. Hearne, subsuquently scored two more Derbies (1977 and 1978) along with six more championships and, remains on top of the all time list. Multi-Time winner Jimmy Blewett, will be returning as the defending champion in the Tour Type Modified and SK Wall Modified. Blewett, still lives under the moniker "Showtime" and, he captured and successfully defended his Modified crown along with his recent third place finish at the North South Shootout. In 2019, he'll be racing dirt at New Egypt Speedway. Five time champion "Big Money" Matt Hirschman will also be returning to the Fall Classic and, put last years event behind him. Hirschman, finished a close second at the recent North South Shootout in Concord, NC but, NASCAR Tour Regular John McKennedy took the win but, Matt has been a major threat at the Derby!
Andrew Krause, finished a remarkable second in the 150 lap Tour Type Modified event along with his victory in the 50 lap Dirt Modified. In the SK Modified, he did not get the best result that he had hoped for. Everyone will keep their eyes on Krause and, hoping to pick up great finishes. 2006 Winner and two time king Steven Reed, will be in the mix to record good finishes in his new #55.
After being absent most of the year; 18 year old phenom Blake Barney will be sporting his red #14 in the 150 lap Tour Type main event and, score a respectable finish. Another Tour regular, Timmy Solomito will be competing in the 150 lap contest and among others!
This Classic will be stuffed with an action packed schedule!!
