Vault Family,

I received the very sad news that Amy Zawaski, wife of good friend of The Vault Brian Zawaski passed away on Saturday, January 7th.  Amy was recently diagnosed with a serious illness, and while the family remains strong, her passing is felt by all who knew Amy, as well as those in the racing community who know the Zawaski family.

It was just 6 years ago that the racing community, with the help of RJC Charities, stepped up to help young  Daniel Zawaski, who in 2011, at the age of 9, faced critical surgery.  Thanks to help of prayer, and the kindness of others, Daniel is now a freshman in high school.

It is sometimes difficult to understand why things happen, and maybe it's not for us to understand, however, I do feel a deep sadness for our friend Brian, and for what his family is now going through, with the sudden loss of Amy.

I spoke to Brian (Bird as he is known here on The Message Vault) earlier today and offered my condolences, and let him know that his family will be in the thoughts and prayers of us here for the immediate days ahead, and for many more beyond.  I asked him if there is anything we can do to support him and his two sons (Ben and Daniel) during this time.  After some thought, Brian just said if we could just let folks know about Amy... and to not be sad, as that is not what she would have wanted....  She liked to smile, and liked simple and practical, over fancy and complicated.  Amy loved baseball, and was a huge Mets fan.  She knew the game inside and out.  Not just a casual fan, but as Brian said, "Amy understood everything about the game, and at a level close to that of a team manager."

Services for Amy will be held at 9am on Saturday, January 14th at the United Methodist Church in Rockaway NJ 07866.  Brian added, "We will be celebrating Amy's life."  He asks those attending to please wear something of color (not black.)  "Wear a Hawaiian shirt & jeans.... maybe your Mets apparel... anything with color... that is what Amy liked."  Refreshments will be offered afterwards, as a way of celebrating Amy's life.

As a group, and to do something to support the Zawaski's at this difficult time, and to honor Brian's wish of doing something positive as Amy would have wanted, I am asking for those of you who are part of the family we have here, to consider a donation in the name of Amy Zawaski, that can be provided to those medical facilities that offered care and support to young Daniel at the hospital during his critical time in 2009, and to those who brought care and peace to Amy over the past few weeks.

I have reached out to RJC Charities, and they have set up a way for all of us to support Brian's request above, and for us to really support one of "our familes" at this difficult time:
