For those who may not know, racer and friend Ron John Koczon has been battling some health issues and a group of great racing folks have put together an event this Saturday at Bridgeport, that will be a great opportunity for the racing community to show their support of this fine young man.
I first met Ron John and his dad at the Freehold Mall Race Car Show, back in the early 90's, and ever since that day, I've considered both Ron John and his dad as friends. At that time, Ron John was racing a Camaro in the Street Stock division at East Windsor. He would make the move up to Sportsman a few years later, and after a few seasons, would make the move up to modifieds, and would become a multi-time modified feature winner at New Egypt Speedway.
The racecars may have changed along the way, but the one thing that didn't change is Ron John's smile.
When I introduced him to my kids, he was an instant favorite. My son still has a Ron John T-Shirt that he wears. As for my daughter... well, here's one of her all time special pictures of her and her all time favorite race driver:
The picture's from 2007 - She's a sophomore in college now...
I will be at Bridgeport this Saturday, and I'm hoping that those of you who can attend will be there too, and can show your support with a donation, and/or by participating in the chinese auction. For those who can't attend, but who want to show their support, we'll find out if there is an address that you can send a check or something to let Ron John, and the Koczon Family know that we appreciate the great days behind the wheel... and the great smile.
Thank you Vault Family,
