I was thinking today about what you said in your post, that the racers/teams make a lot of money, and they know what is going on... and they put up with it. That's exactly what I saw on the faces of Cole Pearn and Martin Truex after the race when they were being awarded the Regular Season Championship... They really had that look like they had just about enough of Nascar's show manipulation, but at the same time, they know that they are part of the show, and get paid more doing what they are doing as part of the show than probabably anything else they could do in this lifetime, so they just rolled with it, even though their faces showed how disgusted they really were with the late race phony caution call.
As for the point about if Junior was leading, or if Danica was leading, I'll stick with that if either were leading, Cope would of had to have been flipping end over end and on fire for them to have thrown the caution as quickly as they did on Saturday night when Truex was sleepwalking his way to victory.
You mentioned that you'd agree that if Junior's was leading, probably no yellow, but maybe not the case with Danica. Think about that for a minute... "Danica Wins!" "Danica to Contend for Championship"... Danica Wins at Nascar's Highest Level"... It would be time to fire up the mega hype machine all over again, and I'm not just talking about the racing world's hype machine. Nothing would bring more mainstream coverage (USA Today, major networks, etc.), then her winning, and making the Chase and having a shot at the Championship. And that type of press and re-ignition of Danicamania is something that Nascar could only dream about...
You think that abulance driver's in trouble for ignoring Nascar's "Directive"... Could you imagine the trouble the guy or gal would be in they had made the call when Cope scraped the wall to through the yellow if Junior or Danica was leading with one or two to go?
Thanks for your thoughts Anthony. Much appreciated.
