I wanted to share my thoughts on SDW, I attended as a photographer for the media.I wasnt quite sure what to expect this year going back. I was very impressed to say the least. I have attended many SDW shows at the mile and also the inaugural race at Oswego last year.
This years big block race was the best modified race Ive seen in all my years coming, bar none. The first hundred laps it seemed guys were kinda feeling out the track and there set ups. The last hundred laps was the best modified racing I ever seen up there, three wide racing through out the field, Stewie running right along the fence lap after lap was awesome, I honestly wrote Matt Sheppard off at about lap 120 as it seemed he was fading. The charge he made in those last five laps still has me speechless, it truly was amazing. A 200 lap race and it came down to the very last lap, what more could you ask for?
Here are a couple thoughts..., Oswego had a very large crowd, those back strech bleachers were filled, I absolutly reccomend sitting there. They figured out the track surface and gave those guys a track they can race on. I also add that the vibe and excitement of SDW is back, to me I honestly felt it....
In closing I will suggest taking in SDW next year, I think you will be pleasentlly surprised....This is just wishfull thinking on my part but I would love to see a return to the 80`s and 90`s format, bring back the Outlaws on Saturday afternoon and then run them again Saturday night at Fulton. The potential is there to make it happen, fellow 3 widers if you get the chance take in this show next year and experience it for yourselves.
