I did some work on Mike Margerum's LM that ran EWS. He only raced a few seasons but was starting to run pretty good. At the end of the season one year he went to Flemington for a special show and earlier in the day I went over to the track to take a look because we had a downpour the night before. I called Mike and told him to bring all his soft EWS tires because the inside of the turns were under water and when it dried out, the track would stay soft and bitey. Everyone else was running harder McCrearys and I figured he would have a big advantage.

I was right. Mike smoked 'em...problem was he ran coilovers on the rear because it was legal at EWS but not Flemington. For some reason the rules said the shocks and springs had to be separate (but it was ok to run an $80 fake coilover inside the spring, go figure). Ran warmups, no one said a word. Ran the heat, no problem. Win the feature, everyone is all over the car like stink on sheet...Didn't have a damn thing to do with the shocks, it was all tires but because he wasn't a regular...well, you can guess the ending.
