(Yeah I know, you guys thought you smelled wood burning, lol) and since I made the statement last week that it's my opinion that Kyle Larson is carrying the 42 car, I was thinking about the local guys that didn't get the recognition they deserved either because of not getting that top notch ride or just being overlooked and I thought it may be fun to think what others think. I came up with 2 guys right away, see who you can come up with. Maybe limit it to 2 for now...

1. Dick Havens - I don't ever hear his name mentioned with the Ploskis, Osmuns, Beavers, etc of the era (maybe because his time on top was relatively short), but he was the 1970 Flemington Mod champ with 8 wins that year including an impressive 5 in a row. I remember that year pretty well because my dad was in his 2nd year with the modifieds and although I was pretty young, I remember Havens being practically unbeatable. After that, pfft, gone! Not sure why..

2. Del George - Del was really fast 1st in the O'Hare #52 coupe, then the orange Mulligan Pinto. Won some big races but never seem to get that ride that would put him over the top. Seemed like after the 1st year with the Mulligan car it fell off for whatever reason and he picked up some rides after that, won a 50 lapper at Flemington in the Ege #9 coupe which no one really got around that well in...I just always thought that he was a really good driver and in a top notch car he could've been a big winner...

Next....?
