Went to Super Dirt Week as a fan in the grandstands.
This show just keeps getting better and better every year that they have it at Oswego Speedway ! Despite all of the rain and the lack of "on speedway practice", the track stayed in EXCELLENT shape all week long ! The Dirt crew proved that they can run a show in a timely and expedited manner when they want to. Very little down time at all, at anytime during the week when the track was in a condition to be raced on. Drivers were able to race in four very distinct lines on the track, the most exciting being the line that Larry Wight, Stewey, Bobby Varin, etc ran. Dust was not a factor, except for the first couple of laps when the cars would simply blow the dust off.
Very few dislikes, but there are a few. Moving Victory Lane to the center of the infield simply didn't work out. The backstretch couldn't see the proceedings, the frontstretch couldn't see the proceedings. Good try to accomodate the backstretch crew, but simply didn't work out
The food on the frontstretch, short the pizza is NOT good.
There was talk online during the week that now that SDW is at a smaller track, there is hope of bringing the sprint cars back. That led me to look at a few things the following day as to what would prevent that from happening. The one glaring thing was the lack of cabling along the frontstretch fence to prevent cars or parts from entering the spectator area. It boogled my mind that there was none there. Simply, what looked to me to be concrete reinforcement wire hung between the track and the grandstand. I'm amazed that no one was injured or killed there yet ! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE look into this !
Since it's a once a year thing, i'm not going back within the month, but certainly looking forward to next year !
