I saw Tas race at Alcyon from 1954 through 1960. I never thought he was wild or rough on equipment either. He was absolutely the best, however. And I am a huge McLaughlin fan. Then again I was only 8-13 years old at the time. One of the best lines of all time during a driver change was when Tas left Lucky Jordan in June of 1959 to drive the Neal Williams 44 just vacated by the retiring Ralph Smith. Will Cagle had been up from Florida and spending time hanging around Lucky's operation. When Tas quit, Lucky turned to Cagle and said, "OK, Junior! You've got two weeks to show me what you can do!"
