INAUGURAL INDOOR AUTO RACING SERIES READIES FOR WEEKEND IN NEW SYRACUSE EXPOS CENTER; TRACK BUILT, CARS TO ARRIVE FRIDAY MORNING, WEATHER FORECASTS FAVORABLE BOTH DAYS; TICKETS STILL AVAILABLE, PARKING IS FREE
SYRACUSE, NY March 7, 2019 . . . As well over 100 Three Quarter (TQ) Midget, Champ Kart and Slingshot race teams from ten states and two countries made their final preparations to head to Onondaga County, NY and the New York State Fairgrounds Exposition Center, finishing touches were being performed as well by the Indoor Auto Racing Series staff in building the race track on the Expo Center’s concrete floor.
The two days of racing are being presented by RPM Raceway.
“This is a first time event for us and it’s an event we are all looking forward to,” Indoor Auto Racing Series promoter Len Sammons said. “With the weather forecasts for both days getting better and better, we expect big crowds and great racing.”
The Syracuse races have attracted sponsorship support. In addition to RPM Raceway, Oswego Speedway signed on as a sponsor, offering a $50 bonus to every TQ Midget heat race winner Friday and Saturday night. Dr. William Lowe, a long-time supporter of the Indoor Auto Racing Series, has posted a $200 award for the fastest TQ Midget time trailer each night. Bob Hilbert Sportswear has added a $150 bonus for the driver leading lap 20 in each night’s TQ Midget feature.
“The track will be almost identical in size and configuration to what we have run on in Allentown, PA the last several years,” Len Sammons said. “And some of the best racing we have had in our Indoor Auto Racing Series races came in Allentown.”
The format for the Syracuse race will be different in that all three classes, TQ Midgets, Champ Karts and Slingshots, will run complete programs on both Friday and Saturday nights. At the conclusion of the Saturday night races, Series champions will be crowned in all three classes.
“As of Thursday night, we still have some good tickets in a few sections available,” Sammons noted. Parking on the New York State Fairgrounds for the Indoor Auto Racing Series races is free of charge.
On both race nights, the pit area will be open to the public for one hour before the start of the races to allow fans to meet and greet the competitors and get a first-hand look at the cars.
Tickets will be available at the Expo Center box office for each event beginning at 2:00 PM. Doors open at 6:00 PM Friday with racing starting at 7:30. The time schedule for ‘Championship Saturday’ is 5:30 for door opening and 7:00 for the first green flag.
