Spent a lot of time in that vincinity. We lived on Maple avenue which was kind of equivalent to a few blocks away. The Pedricks were our little league baseball coaches and when we were kids 'us twins' worked for them sweeping floors. I remember working in the ice creamery and staring out at the window wondering what was going on over there.
Brother Dave and his friend Ron Bothers (I think it was Ron) had a Rupp cart and I remember going to Howie's and hanging out one afternoon. I think the back story had something to do with Karting Parts.
I thought, but Howie you can keep me honest, that David hung out or helped the race team in some way for a period of time. I don't know if that is speculation and I'll see him tonight and have to ask him about that.
We've said this before here, but anyone that was a Flemington devotee knew which garages had race cars in town and around the surrounding area. Another example was Rusty Marion. He got a ton of business from interested folks when he kept his race car in the garage on the middle circle. Hung out there a lot in my teen years and people always stopped in, bought gas, and asked about the race car.
Howie's had to be the marquee race shop though. Every Saturday night 50% of the crowd - the ones heading north to Flemington, peered in on that driveway when going by. The rest of us locals were race fan stalkers (LOL) when we went about our business during the week.
