This I often wonder how many M&M’s they have to make to support that race car.
Just like DW was highly disliked when he ran his mouth in the beginning of his career Busch is in the same boat. And just like DW Busch will overcome his distractors. Simply because everyone loves a winner. And he is gonna win more races. Personally I think he is a jerk. I’ll tell you this though. If I were NASCAR I’d find a reason to start him in the back of every race. God forbid that I say this but when I watch a race in person I Key on the man just like I did Earnhardt. I always wanted to see where Earnhardt was on the track because I knew he was giving 100% all of the time and was always going to be a threat. Busch is of the same mold. Watched him at Richmond last fall come from last to top ten under green. He makes some incredible moves with that car.
I dont have any idea how things are in NJ, NY or Eastern Pa. but I can say this about Md. and Va. out tracks very seldom have a full field of any one class anymore. Most classes have anywhere from 5 to 13 cars in each of five or six classes. Many times the fan count is very bad. I’ve noticed that Lincoln and Port Royal are not drawing 24 410’s to their weekly shows. Guys with Super Late Models are staying home because the weekly purses are to low. In fact most local tracks are not scheduling them weekly anymore. The reason I mention this is because I think Cup Racing is in the same shape. Only on a much larger scale. While a lot of things come into play I think one that is hardly ever mentioned is that the auto racing fan base is just plain getting old. And the young people of today are not going to fill the void. Think about this. The population of the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area is over three million. And a speedway can’t attract 24 Ucars? What does this tell you?
