He did mention the Ferraiuolos when he was telling the story about Jerry Fried having him apologize to the crowd at Nazareth. I get what you’re saying though, I was too young to remember him running the 9 and the Statewide cars. I always associate him with the 73 and 112.
As a kid in the stands, I will always remember him getting a huge reaction from the crowd. I met him personally once in Mobile, Alabama at an All-Pro Late Model race in 1991. I took some old pics of the Mulligan 73 and Batmobile to have him sign. I think he was genuinely surprised and appreciated the fact that someone in the deep south would bring pictures from that era to have him sign. We spoke briefly and he called several crewmembers over to look at the pictures. So, yes, he paid for his choices - even after we met that day. But for a few minutes in Mobile I forgot about all the negative things I had heard, because he was actually very friendly and thanked me for bringing the pictures by.
