Those iconic words by legendary D.O.T.  crew chief - Harry Hogg!!

After last weeks wreck at the Port - When I thought Buffalino was going to land in my lunch box, I figured I needed to get a little CLOSER to the action!

Heading out the back way - thru Doylestown and Quakertown, I ventured to Grandview Speedway.  Since I STILL don't have EZPASS, I steered clear of the PA T-pike and their ever increasing tolls!

Got to the track early, and parked across the street in a very nice lady's yard for 3 BUCKS!  OH YES, $3.00- pit admission at East Windsor Speedway - 1968!!

As I sat in my truck, I was amazed on how clear I could hear the track announcer.   Sure glad I brought my Harbor Fright ear muffs with me.  Definitely needed them later.

As I was making my way UP-HILL to the ticket office, I noticed that the escalator was down for repairs and I would have to LEG-IT up the hill on foot!  When I finally reached my journey, in front of the ticket office, I needed to hold my heart in my chest, CAUSE it was ready to jump OUT!  Guess I should have kept up with President Kennedy's fitness program from all those years ago, HUH!

Finally got a seat and settled in for a night of CLOSE racin'.  Folks in front of me had on some really nice Craig Von Doren T-shirts, celebrating Craig's 40 years racing - 1980- 2020.  Shirt had some nice colored shots of the cars Craig has driven over the years.

WOW, 1980's and late 1970's.  When the water trucks came out on the track, I was waiting for Jerry Reed to start singing, "East Bound and Down".  These trucks were definitely refugees from one of the BANDIT'S convoys.  Was now waiting for BANDIT Darville to JUMP victory lane with his Firebird.

One reason I traveled to G'view, was the Super Sportsman cars were on the race card.  These cars- open wheel, self-starting,Drag rubber with plenty of rear stagger, and NO-WINGS!  These boys ran 2 heats and a 25 lap feature.  Looked like they were having plenty of FUN, jackin'-em-sideways, high-low, in-out, good close racing.  Put on a really good show! One racer had a big FORD decal on this hood, Looked like he was running Windsor style heads on this engine.  He wound up finishing 5th.

The Mods - 4 heats , 2 consolations.  They started 28 cars in the feature, WOW!  Lot of racers on a small tight track.  Real good side-by-side racing.  A little RUBBIN' here and there.  Howard came from mid pack, much of the time in the low groove.  Just lost out by a whisker to Hirthler, who started closed to the front.

Just want to give drivers a PAT ON THE BACK for some GOOD CLOSE racing and hardly NO wreckin'!!

Want to head back in a few weeks, USAC wingless midget on the program, maybe Kyle Larson will show!
