The only time I sat in those grandstands was when my Dad took the family to see Jack Kochman's Hurricane Hell Drivers. It must have been in 1964 because I remember they were driving '64 Darts and Monacos. The announcer was talking about a local guy who was going to start his first Indy car race. I said something to my Dad about it and he said "ah, he'll never amount to nuthin". Of course we were talking about Mario Andretti. I brought it up to my Dad several years ago before he passed and he didn't remember it. But I did! So watch what you say to little kids!
I also remember from that night that we went down to the track during a red flag to talk with Ed Farley. My Dad suggested that he autograph my program but he didn't have a pen and we didn't bring on with us.
