Mike WAS a character, his son Al later on was a real nice guy too.

 I think the guy at BP was named Wolfie...once back in the mid 90's my brother had an oil pan that was converted from a box style pan to a rear sump and the seam across the front of the pan where it was modified split. We jacked the front way up so the oil would run to the back and Wolfie got under there, laid on his back, cleaned it off as best he could and gas welded that 6" long seam perfectly. Unbelievable how he did that and Darren ran that pan that way for as long as he had that engine.
