If you were called to the pit shack after the races, it usually was'nt good. That small building hosted Tom O'Rourke, officials, and usually Nancy the handicapper.
The pay phone on the wall was often used to call the office, to find out if it was raining at Wall Stadium. It would be pouring in the pits and the office always said it was not raining and they were racing!
That pit shack was torn down because it was a permanant structure and reflected on the property tax. That's why many tracks use temporary (trailers) instead.
