Went to Oaklane Raceway (1/4 midgets) in Trumbauersville, Pa as a participant with my 7 yr old grandson. Built him a new car this winter at my nephew Chad Connor's shop and took it for it's maiden voyage yesterday. Good news is, he won 1st time out with it! Truthfully though, because there was a big race in NC this weekend he was the only car in his class, lol. But hey, a win is a win, right? Nothing fell off, nothing hit, nothing leaked and it's in one piece.
We actually brought 2 cars intending to race the older one but after realizing we were the only car in the class I figured let's use it as a 20 lap test session. That and after he warmed both cars up with the new one on new tires he came in and told his father "we're racing this one!" Typical driver, lol.
Anyway, likes: Got to test the new car without any hindrance and not having a chance earlier this week. Got a number of compliments on the appearance and someone talked to my son in law that knew my dad and was full of praise for the legacy of the 301. Wish he would've stopped by and said hello. Also, lots of new families were there with kids starting out, looks to be healthy.
Dislikes: Friggin' cold weather. Had enough of it. Since the whole thing is run by basically parents, there isn't a sense of urgency to move things along and since the admission is free, not much concern about it either. Quite a few of the board members weren't there last night due to the NC race, so hopefully it gets better.
