Where: New Egypt Speedway: Mods (40 lap feature), Crates, Wingless Sprints, 4 Cylinders, and Rookies.
With temps right around the high 40's late in the day, I originally wasn't going to go to the races (thought it's too damn cold!), but made a gametime decision to go to New Egypt - Got there at 5:50 for a 6pm start.
Attended as a spectator: Admission was going to be $23, but Nascar Night promo got me $5 off because I wore an old dayglow orange Tide Racing hat, so it was $18. (Discount for seniors, but I'm not quite there yet... although the gray in my lock down inspired beard might make anyone think I'm already there!)
Liked: Started right on time at 6pm. Good crowd considering the cold temps/other factors. Track in great shape (very raceable, no dust.) Car counts good. Good racing in all divisions. Announcers presented the show with excitement, (informative, interesting.) Announcement was made during opening ceromonies that the show would be moved along quickly due to the cold, and they made good on that promise. Rookie feature, 2 Wingless Sprint heats, 3 modified heats, 3 crate heats, and 4 cyl feature all completed by 7:15.
Intermission was a quick 20 mins, which gave folks a chance to stretch their legs, while the track crew did a routine pre-feature prep.
Order of features had modified feature 2nd to last (mod feature over by 8:40), with crate feature remaining for those who wanted to see the complete show. Complete show over around 9 - 9:15'ish.
Highlights: In the Modifieds, Billy Osmun (Billy's grandson/Willie's son) drove up from around 12th to the lead with about 5 to go... Great side by side battle with Dom Buffalino in the #126 and Osmun in the #81 for many laps, and with lap cars causing unusual lines to have to be taken by both. Buffalino got the win, with Osmun finishing 2nd after having a rear suspension failure in the very last few laps. Pauch Jr drove up from deep in the field to finish in the top 5. In the Wingless Springs, I enjoyed watching Brian Spencer wheel around the outside (Feature won by a fast running Mike D'Agostino.) Pat Wall passed a bunch of cars in the crate feature to get the win.
Disliked: Victory Lane mic was cutting out. Scoreboard had some issues late in the show.
Going back: Yes. Strong "opening night performance!" This was a well run show, plenty of excitement, and an enjoyable way to spend a Saturday night.
