GROSSO EXPRESS ROLLS TO THIRD WIN IN A ROW

Current points leader, Brandon Grosso, continues to show his dominance by winning the thirty lap Vahlco Wheels modified feature Saturday night at the New Egypt Speedway. The win was his third in a row and the eleventh of his small block career at the Route 539 oval.

Starting in the number one position, young Ryan Conrad lead a potent field of twenty five into action with Frank Venezia second and DJ Hunt third. Hunt and Venezia swapped positions on lap five as Conrad continued to set a torrid pace over the first have of the event. The pace slowed on lap sixteen when Louden Reimert spun in between turns three and four.

Quickly picking up where he had left off, Conrad had the McClinton #5C running to perfection. Veteran John McClelland saw the opportunity he was looking for on the restart as he made a bold move to pass both Hunt and Venezia to now run second. Tracking down Conrad, McClelland became the new leader on lap nineteen as Grosso cracked the top three.

Wasting no time, Grosso moved into second on lap twenty-one and two laps later, a brilliant run by Conrad would end as he would come to rest in turn four with apparent driveline issues. A good double file restart saw McClelland charge into the lead with the Reid Sod Farm #44. But on lap twenty five Grosso saw the opening he was looking to take the lead. Starting in seventeenth spot, Cale Ross was one of the fastest cars on the speedway passing McClelland with two laps to go. Unfortunately, with time running out, he was unable to mount any sort of a challenge as Grosso took the checkered flag. Following McClelland across the finish line in fourth was Danny Bouc with Hunt fifth.

Rookie Anthony Tramontana continues to impress everyone as he came from twenty fourth to finish sixth, with Venezia, Ron Kline, David Burns, and rookie Paul Mancini rounding out the top ten.

Showing her strength over the first two events finishing third and second respectively, Doylestown, Pa's Heidi Hedin looked even stronger as she won the twenty lap Larry's Hot Rods and Harleys NEWS feature event. The win was her second at the speedway in the Michael Garage sponsored #3H.

Shea Wills took control of the event as the green flag waved with Duane Nixon second and Hedin third. Hedin moved into second on lap three and on lap six, Mick D'Agostino jumped into third. The trio remained in that order up until lap ten. With the field receiving the crossed flag sign, Hedin quickly took advantage of an opening presented to her to take the lead. Wills tried to fight back, but once out-front Hedin was adding to her lead with every lap scored.

Appearing as though she would walk away with the event, a pair of caution flags on laps seventeen and eighteen brought her rivals much closer than she would have wanted. Answering both restarts to absolute perfection, Hedin was able to hold off three-time track champ Rich Mellor to score the popular win. Wills kept two time feature winner D'Agostino in check to take third with Nixon fifth.

In the fifteen lap Wash Wagon 4 Cylinder main event, defending champion Justin Dunn continued to show his dominance, winning his second of the 2022 campaign. The event was just one lap old when Mike Fox, running in first, and Tim Jones in second, came together in between turns three and four. Fox was able to rejoin the rear of the field, but for Jones, the night was over.

Kyle Hurley now found himself in the lead and held the position for two more laps before giving way to Dunn on lap four. Once out front, the Trenton, NJ driver began to power away from his peers, but his archrival, Joe Garey Jr. was on the move trying to keep pace. Narrowing the gap at times, Garey was never able to make a serious attempt at passing Dunn as he captured career win number thirteen.

Joe Garey Sr., Bob Johnson, and Brian Ford filled positions three through five when the checkered flag fell.

The twenty lap Hamilton Auto Clinic/Racersguide Crate feature was red flagged on lap nine when a strong thunderstorm moved the area. When the race resumes, Nick Van Wickle will be the leader followed by Amanda Buchel and Kevin Borden.

This week the Delaware Auto Exhange MASS group will join the Vahlco Wheels Modifieds, Hamilton Auto Clinic/Racersguide Crates, Freedom Firearms Street Stocks, and the Rookies. Green flag racing begins at 6PM with the gates opening at 4PM.
