On that evening there was no indication these were to be the final events held at the track. A program of limited sportsman, late model and AMSA mini-stock racing was scheduled for the following Friday evening, September 14. In fact, the advertisement for that night's races included mention of a 100-lap event for the limited sportsman on Saturday, September 29. However, the September 14 races were rained out. Following that rain out it was announced that the September 21 events would be the final program of the season. However, immediately preceding the September 21 date promoter Ward Crozier made the announcement that he was suspending all racing activities for the remainder of the season. The announcement was published in the September 21 edition of the Easton (PA) Express newspaper. Several competitors, fans and track workers showed up at the track that night, unaware of the announcement.
