like many, many others I grew disench with Cup Racing when Brian changed the rules and protoc. I stopped watching a sport that I was literally addicted to. And just like everyone else I comp”aimed bitterly over it.Sunday I finally decided to put it all behind me. It is what it is and it’s not going to change. NASCAR is not listening.

Bear with me on this. In 1958 I attended my first big GN race at Charlotte. The World 600. I sat on the back stretch in the unreserved seats. I hadn’t even heard of most of the drivers. Throughout the race the only thing I knew was what was on the pylon. And that was only the top ten. Had no idea who made unscheduled pit stops, who dropped out etc. I was watching cars going aroun$ in circles and I loved it. Subsequent trips to Dover, Trenton, Darlingto; and Richmond I did the same. It wasn’t until I bought a headset am/fm radio that I started liten to the race while sitting in the grandstands. The real game changer came when I bought a scanner.

Sunday I made a decision. I decided to go back to 1968. At the dropp of the green I hit the mute button. I watched the entire race in silence. I only knew what the pylon told me. The top twenty. Paid absolutely no attention to lucky dogs, wave arounds, stage points, pit road penalties etc. I loved it just like 1968. After the race I looked at the result. After all that’s all that counts. This probably sounds dumb to some folks but I do believe I can again enjoy Cup Racing.
