I'm wondering if the reason drag tires worked was beyond the obvious "bigger tire footprint to track", and if it had anything more to do with racing the rear of the car (higher center of gravity/maybe putting more weight on the right rear at a time when I think most were still looking for weight on the left rear???, or if more flex in the sidewall softened things up in the rear at a time when I think a lot of folks were still running somewhat rigid leaf spring set ups.

I may not know why they worked, but I do know they looked cool as heck, and fit right in with the look that I tried to create whenever trying to draw a picture of a modifed in my note book during high school classes!

Last question:  Was a drag tire "a drag tire" because of the height/width or soft sidewall, or was it a particular size that pushed into "drag tire" status.

Here's what looks to me like a big tire on the rear of the #292 in 1973, but I don't think it is a drag tire, correct?
