Stan flipped the #81 Norcia Mustang from turn 2 all the way to turn 3 very early in the 1974 season, but did not get hurt.

He broke his arm in back to back first turn accidents, once in the Horton #43, and the other time in the #4T7.  (Can't remember which came first, but the results were identical....)

For those who weren't there, it's almost impossible to believe, but the truth is that he broke his arm after having the throttle stick causing him to crash hard into the turn one fence.  He was out of action for many months (possibly the off season, but I'm not sure), but what I am sure of is that the very next time out, the exact same thing happened - same corner... stuck throttle.... and straight into the first turn fence, with the same results (broken arm.)

As unbelievable as it probably sounds to read that, just imagine how unbelievable it was to us sitting in turn one right under the Section 3-4 sign, to have seen it happen all over again on the night of Stan's return.
