I received a special post-Christmas present today.  I took three of my grandchildren to the America on Wheels Museum in Allentown PA. The focus of the visit was to see their extensive holiday train layout including a room consisting of a train layout made entirely of Lego pieces. But as we walked through the doors my focus shifted. Directly in front of me, there it was, the Holy Grail of restored race cars: the Pfrommer Offy!  I had immediately purchased the book detailing the complete history of this car when the book became available just a few months ago. And now, there it was in front of me! Beautiful, just beautiful! And my excitement was taken to another level when I entered an area on the second floor and came into view of Mario Andretti's #1 Brawner-Hawk Dean Van Lines Special that he raced in 1965, '66 and '67! The car is on loan from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum. Again, beautiful, just beautiful!

America on Wheels Museum is open tomorrow through Saturday, 10:00 am to 4 pm.  The museum is closed during January and February so I don't know if these two cars would still be onsite whe the museum reopens in March. The museum displays are always fascinating and educational, and seeing these two iconic race cars is well worth the trip.

Oh yeah . . . the grandkids loved the model train displays . . . and got a kick watching Pop Pop react to seeing what I told them was "My special Christmas present" in seeing these two cars.
