ARRA Continues to Forge Towards a National Scope
Ringoes, NJ – ARRA, Auto Racing Research Associates continues to move forward in its goal of becoming one of the nations faithful and reliable sources of auto racing statistics across the country. ARRA is comprised of over forty auto racing historians, with a huge concentration here in the Northeast, but enjoying the talents of auto racing historians across the country. Just today, California historian Jim Thurman submitted a study on a short lived auto racing facility that was carved out of a local college football stadium for the use of midget car racing. ARRA is realizing its goal of becoming a national in scope auto racing statistics resource site!
Thurman reveals, "Baxter Stadium in the port city of Stockton, California was primarily a college football stadium, but for two years, it hosted weekly midget racing. I have compiled the results from this bit of pre-war Central California midget racing history. Among the competitors was Bill Vukovich (Sr.), who would go on to win two Indianapolis 500-mile races."
I have to think back to my reluctance to “go national” in the scope of our research work.” Says ARRA President Fred Voorhees. “Historian Tom Schmeh hounded me to “spread our wings” so to speak and it took me a while to grasp the enormity and the obvious need to take that next step. It was the right thing to do and we began to hunt down capable auto racing historians across the county and we are building on that and are reaping the rewards!”
Jim quickly began to submit work from his geographical area on the West coast almost immediately after being accepted as an ARRA historian. He, like some of the other historians, are increasingly keeping busy with compiling stats and assuring the further documentation of our sports history. Auto Racing Research Associates is a growing group of over forty auto racing historians across the country banded together for the purpose of the research, documentation and displaying of auto racing history such as driver win statistics, track, racing series and organizations histories and also the background of racing personalities, particular cars from the past and various other interesting facts of racing history that should not be forgotten. ARRA continues to build a network of associated auto racing related websites to unite for better chances of furthering the understanding of the past of our sport.
