MARTINO FIGHTS OFF FOES FOR WALL STADIUM MODIFIED WIN

WALL, NJ ~ Tommy Martino, Jr. fought off many of the best drivers the Modified division has to offer to win the 40-lap main event at Wall Stadium Speedway Saturday night. It was the Red Bank speedster's second career Modified win.

Martino took advantage of a front row starting spot to jump off to the lead while fighting Mayetta's Tyler Truex for command. Steven Reed of Jackson advanced to second on the tenth lap and then chased Martino before Truex regained second as Reed's effort faded.

Meanwhile, defending champion Derek Hopkinson of Milltown was slicing his way toward the front and took over second spot on lap 35. Hopkinson then chased Martino to the finish line as Truex, Reed and Jake Nelke of Manahawkin wrapped up the top five.

“I knew who was behind me, but I honestly was feeling pretty comfortable,' Martino said in the winner's circle. “This car was real fast tonight. Fast right off the trailer. I seemed to have plenty of power left if I needed it.”

Freehold's Jared Okerson raced to his first ever Factory Stock win. His last win came in the old Street Stock division in 2005. Okerson fought off defending champ Bryan O'Shea of Neptune City at the line. O'Shea was then moved back two spot to fourth because, in the opinion of officials, he was guilty of rough riding. Shanon Mongeau and Ryan Bilello, both of Howell were second and third while Logan Fraser of Toms River was fifth.

DJ Doyle of Freehold grabbed his second career Sportsman win in their 25-lapper after being chased by former champ Kevin Davison of Howell. Opening night winner Ricky Collins of Willow Grove, Pa., Brick's Robert Sutphin and Chris Silvestri of Hazlet completed the top five.

Mike Lavery of Orangeburg, NY crossed the line first in the Fast 4 25-lapper, but when officials found an unapproved suspension part in post race inspection, Alonzo Morales of Edgewater Park was awarded the win. Greg Viel, TJ Graves, Joseph Pressey and Stephen LaCicero advanced to second through fifth.

Ethan Brown of Brooklyn, NY was impressive in winning the Limited Late Model 25-lapper over Brian Doyle, Ray Minieri, Mike Tillett, Brandon Turbish and James Moorman.
