Let us know if your weekend had any racing in it and what you thought... Attended In person?, Watched on TV or Streaming? I went to New Egypt on Saturday. Legends of the Fall season finally that honored the memory of car owner John Chemidlin. John was a driver back in the early 70's with his own blue/white #747 coupe and Pinto (East Windsor, Flemington), who stepped away from the sport for a while, became a very successful business man (owner of Edison Generator - Edison NJ & South Brunswick NJ), and later became a big time winning car owner in both modified and sprint car racing, always with his beautifully appearing/well prepared #747 race cars. $25 for Seniors and Senoritas! Modifieds, (including match races for the modifieds), Crates, New Egypt Sprints, 305 Sprints, Attended as a spectator in the stands. Good show. Track very smooth, no dust where I was sitting (between turn 4 & starter's stand.) I was surprised because it hasn't rained in what seems like 2 months..... Racing was good, show moved along well. Match races provided some excitement from the usual heat/feature routine. Enjoyed Nick Leach being on the mic to call the match races, asking each driver who they wanted to "call out" next, getting the crowd into the mix, and the fans responded. Modified feature was excellent with a Billy Pauch Jr earning the win in a #14 that I'm told he usually runs at Big Diamond. I was surprised that Ryan Godown wasn't there, but as it was, there was still plenty of competition as Billy Jr had to track down and pass Duane Howard, Gary Bouc and others... and then had to stay on the wheel in the final laps to keep ahead of a challenge from Brandon Grosso. 305 Sprint feature was exciting with a last lap pass by Buddy Schweibinz to take the win over Brian Carber. NES Sprint feature didn't have many cars, but Brendon Hires road the top groove to deservedly take the win. He's an exciting driver, that seems to always be up near the wall, keeping things very exciting. I had gotten my $'s worth by the time the crate feature was rolling out, so I headed out a little early, but did so having seen a very good show. Likes: Good racing. Good excitement from all 3 announcers (Pete Wortman, Jim Murdock and Nick Leach.) Dislikes: I would make sure all track personnel is a safe distance from track surface during match races. Would like to see more NES Sprints, but I guess with it being late in the year/points are over, and maybe some drivers racing elsewhere that's all (6) that wanted to play. Going back in within a month: This was the last race of the year, but I will be back for more shows in 2025. ------------------------------------ TV: Watched Friday's STSS Feature from OCFS on Flo. Good to see Stewie drive around Sheppard. Hasn't always been that way lately.... TV: Fast forwarded through the truck race, xFinity and the cup races from Homestead. Maybe it was just me, or maybe it's the type of track that Homestead is, but it didn't seem like there were as many late blocks/over the top pushes (good thing) that we've seen elsewhere that always ends up with a bunch of wadded up cars. I Iiked the way the end of the cup race played out with Tyler Reddick earning the win on the final lap after having the best car all day, but looking like the win was out of reach due to a different pit strategy had him pitting under green with just a few laps left, when no one else had to, but then was able to stay out when a yellow came out a lap after he pitted... putting him back up front when everyone else returned from pit lane. His tires were a few laps older, and didn't get the best restart... so looked like he was going to get trounced with just a handful of laps to go, but he battled back to the top to make the winning pass between turns 3 & 4 on the last lap for the win. ---------------------------------------------- Next up: Pumpkin Run, this Saturday Nov 2nd.
