Flores Wrestles Lead Away Late To Win Friday Night at the PPL Center  

Proving that everything old is new again, I see shades of Smokey Yunick! Back in 1964, Smokey brought the weirdest car to Indy. Looked like a typical rear engine Lotus, but with a “pod”, very similar in appearance to a motorcycle sidecar, hanging off the left side between the front and rear tires. Here is where the driver sat, in this case, NASCAR veteran Bobby Johns. Painted in Smokey’s familiar gold and black, it was sponsored as the “Hurst Floor Shift Special”. How did it do? Don’t ask. It bounced off the outside turn 1 wall during qualifying, never to be seen again.
