I was rooting for Pato but was fine with Palou winning. It would be a sin if he never won the 500. I was gutted for Scotty Mac crashing out before the green.
I was out there all weekend and it felt different. I said it a couple times out there and people agreed with me; the Indy 500 is back! The campground we stay at (Coke Lot) was ridiculously full. Our friends have camped in Coke Lot for years and years and they were shocked at how full it was even on Thursday. The speedway grounds are looking fantastic these days. Every year something has been built or remodeled at IMS. Main St. in downtown Speedway is hot and happening destination now for people in town for the race. I remember when it was a sleepy, run down strip but it's now a dining/ drinking hot spot. Traffic is blocked off there so it's like a weekend long street festival. Very fun. I'm biased of course but I think the 2025 edition of the Month of May was the best one in a generation. Yeah, it's back.
