I haven't raced for a long time (late 70's early 80's) and they were doing it back then. Can't remember all of the starter's names in Middletown but most did it. I always took it as a courtesy because you were the leader. Brooks used to do it in New Smyrna every February as well. I'm not saying it should be allowed (although I like it) but just giving my take that your the leader and you get that perk.
