I've always watched the flagman and the cars on the track. I always thought it was a cool look when the flagman gave the leader a clue how close P2 was when giving the two to go signal.
When I started flagging I did the same thing cuz I thought it looked cool. Over time, I realized it was giving an unfair advantage to the leader and partially ruining the show so I stopped doing it.
Now I hold the sticks out 8-10 inches apart no matter how big or small a lead the leading car has.
