Flaggers being spotters

Now that I think about it, I never noticed Harry Dee playing "spotter" at' Flemington until John Mc brought it up.  When I would go in the 1st turn stands with my buddies, we would always joke if Harry's eyesight was "up to snuff" as an accident or spin would occur and Harry was real, real, REAL slow in waving the caution flag.  It seemed like he didn't see the incident but was advised by radio.  I know Flemington wasn't the easiest track viewing wise, but if we saw a problem in the "short shoot" (thanks Bill Singer), why didn't Harry?  Maybe I'm being a little tough on Harry.  As far as flaggers being spotters go, stick to flagging.  Scott Ely
