Just watched last night the highlights of the Oswego big blocks and 358s mains on Youtube.  Found both races to be very entertaining! Was the track rougher this year than in the past?  From what I saw, it didn't appear to hinder close, wild, competitive racing.  It may have aided it! Would love to hear feed back from Mr. Eyres, or any other 3widers that were at Oswego this year.  Scott Ely

2016 was worse than 2021, because this year they only put 6-8 inches of clay down, so the holes to pavement were only 6-8 inches deep. In 2016 there was a foot plus, so now you had craters. 2017, 2018, and 2019 were actually excellent surfaces. The excessive rain that upstate has had, may being the leading factor why it was so bad in 2021.

They work their asses off making for the best surface, "they" not being Super Dirt, but outside "specialist" Jeremy Corcoran. They do their best and I feel bad because they get the blame, but you can't make chicken salad....

It's sad, we went there with a brand new race car and in one 200 lap feature, not crashing or banging or bumping, the car was pretty bad, looked 25 races old

Brand new screen getting hit by track debris. The body is beat and looks crashed, just from all the stress. Many drivers refused to race. There were a dozen cars that dropped out voluntarily by the first and second laps. Many more talked about exiting also. Some crews only brought coolers to the infield instead of tires and tools.

Turn one, yes that's pavement.

  • Thanks Kevin.  I figured if anyone could give a honest opinion on the Oswego dirt surface, it would be you.  When you like at all the attempts (including nascar) to go "dirt" racing on a pavement track, none have been a complete success regarding a smooth, racy dirt surface.  But again, the videos I watched suggested some very good racing in all divisions.  As far as "chicken soup..."  is concerned, I always heard it was tough to "make ice cream out out of horse s**t".  I guess that applies if you look at asphalt as horse s**t.  Scott Ely

Lol. Utica-Rome, Albany-Saratoga, and Fulton are all dirt tracks built over asphalt tracks. I'm pretty sure the depth of clay is much greater than 6". I would bet a foot or two, but they have been compacted for many years at all three, not a month or so like Oswego.

It's just sad, that because all the money that is involved, Super Dirt Car is willing to sacrifice so many cars and not to mention, possible injuries.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ycn5G12Wd04   This one was caused by heavy rutts going into turn three.

Care to comment on why I could not enjoy a Foster's last night? Was hoping for Eagles (got it), Larson (got it) and Aussie victory on the same day.

Ed, that's an easy one.....see "Tyler Dipple". Fun to watch, but I don't think that I'd wanna race side by side with him. Definitely a "loose cannon".

All the money spent to go race there , I think the teams deserve better .  I can't believe DIRT is going back there next year .

That's very true.  They think that this big party is a big party, it's just a money cow for them at the car owners expense, just like Talladega and Daytona.

Couple "oil cans" would be nice, the Aussie had a shot, but if you look at the top 5, the big horses were coming!

It looks like the rough surface is the "rule rather than the exception" at Oswego.  Is Glenn Donnelly still trying to build and operate that 3/4 dirt mile track near (I think) Brewerton?  If he's given up on it should DIRT look into taking over the project and holding their Super Dirt Week there?  Just a thought.  I'm sure some of you 3Widers know more about this track's progress, or lack there of, than I do.  Scott Ely

Last i heard Cuomo promised Donelly big money to help him finish his track. But only if Donelly argeed to break his lease for Super Dirt Week at the mile. When Donelly was forced out of the mile Cuomo and his money was nowhere to be found.  And we all know what happened to Cuomo.

Donnelly's track is nothing more than an empty field. Don't know who even owns it.

Paint man....not exactly how I believe it went down. Glenn had to invest his 20mil into the project first and then the state of Ny would invest their money. If you know anything at all about how Donnelly worked, he always used other peoples $$ to make his $$. Glenn was NEVER gonna put any of his own $( or at least what he needed to, to receive the state funding. He was of the thought process that he deserved the state $ first so that he could proceed further in the project, hence making it an easier "sell" to investors to garner more $.

I was not there, but I did watch the highlight video and I could see what I believe to be large patches of blacktop inside huge craters.  The only way anything will be done about the poor track conditions at Oswego is if all the owners and drivers get together and say they have had enough.  And they do have another option to work with, th STSS.
