It has been brought to my attention that John "Goop" Mondelli passed away today. He was a one of a kind and will be sorely missed. Rest in Peace, my friend . . . . .

Goop had a heart of gold. Liked to stir things up. It took me a few years of pursuading to get him to come to Matheny. It was very hard for him, but he would force himself to go and loved it, talked about it often, with a tear in his eye.  Rest in peace my friend, enjoy your time with Fred Sanford. Doot doot do doot doot!

A while back someone was asking about characters in racing.  Goop was that and more.

He raced an Outlaw Stock and Enduro's, and was very involved with vintage cars for quite a while with his Billy Pauch Tribute car and others.  He was a long time Billy Pauch fan and a forever fan of Flemington Speedway.  It was Goop, Wyatt Jacobus Jr., and the late Bill Hanna that started the Flemington Speedway Historical Society.

Goop always mugged it up for the camera when we'd bump into each other in the pits at New Egypt, or at a swap meet.  He liked to mix it up at times too, and when it was done, you knew where you stood and that was a good thing.  In recent years Goop was spending less time at the races and more time with his Godson, something that brought him probably more joy than anything else in life.

For so many years, a trip to the track meant seeing folks that were part of the true core of the sport, and Goop will always be in that group. 

My condolences to the family and many friends of John "Goop" Mondelli.

I new Goop from our years of racing at New Egypt. 

He got teased a lot but always was always a good sport about it.

I am glad to have known him.

Surprised when I heard the news yesterday. Saw him down at Bridgeport during the Summer. Rest in peace. Condolences to family and friends of John "Goop" Mondelli.

GAVE "GOOP"A FEW PLACE MATS WITH FLEMINGTON DRIVERS ON THEM FOR  MENORY OF THE TRACK . IT WAS THE 1ST. TIME I MET HIM AND HE WAS LIKE MY BEST FRIEND AFTER TALKING TO HIM FOR 5 MINS. . RIP . YOU WERE ONE OF THE GOOD GUYS .

Relatives and friends may visit with the family at Paul Ippolito Berkeley Memorial, 646 Springfield Ave., Berkeley Heights, N.J., on Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2021, from 5 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, Oct. 14, 2021 at 10 a.m., immediately followed by the interment at St. Mary’s Stony Hill Cemetery, Watchung, N.J
