John "Animal" Smith passed away last week after an illness. John was a semi regular on this board at one time. If you ever went to Grandview you no doubt saw him. A true racing nut, and a really funny guy. My first exposure to him was when he was sitting across the aisle from us at Grandview years ago, URC show. He was doing a spot on imitation of announcer Ernie Saxton, something he did regularly. RIP

Truly one of the good guys. Did much for the sport. A true fan. Sorry I never got to see his impersonation of me.

Rest in peace John.

Rick and Ernie, I only knew of John through Facebook. He must have liked a post I displayed on Gary Gollub's page and hit me up. We never corresponded much but I did tell him I would pray for God's will concerning his health. In looking at his pictures he was loved. Quite a few pretty ladies in those shots as well. I never met him but I bet he was quite the character of joking and enjoying racing that many have shared in their memories of John. RIP John

Way too young. Remember to eat dessert first.
