Msg ID: 2714772 Question: Your Favorite Picture In The Vault and Why?

I'm thinking that most of you here on The Message Vault have spent some time in the main site (3 Wide's Picture Vault), and hopefully have a few favorite images.  Maybe it's a picture of a favorite driver... Maybe a car you worked on... Maybe a family member's car... or maybe just a picture that speaks to you for some reason.

Let us know the section, page #, and the image that you think of when it comes to your favorite(s) in The Vault, and if you want, let us know why.

To access the many sections in The Vault, here is a link to the homepage:  www.3WidesPictureVault.com .  Once there, scroll down to the where you see the table with the green bar   at the top with the words: Category Index,  and then click on any of the 43 Sections, and find a favorite (or a few) to let us know about.

Let us know the section, page and photo.  For example, here's a favorite of mine:

70's Section
Page 137
Top Row
Al Michalchuk
Why?:   This is one of my favorite images because it shows one of my favorite cars/drivers, at my favorite track (Flemington), heading out for another "adventure"... with all the scars from previous week's battles.  Also like the time period that the picture captures, and how cars were still mostly all built from junk yard parts and a lot of ingenuity.

So, let us know, what is your favorite picture and why?

(For those who know how to copy and paste a link and would rather provide that than the Section #, Row #, etc, please do that so others will be able to find the images you are referring to.)

Thanks,

3Wide

I always enjoyed the sportman at East Windsor (and Flemington) more than the modifieds. It was fun watching guys who first started in the back each week race their way up and be competitive finally qualifying. These were two of the little guys that made racing what it was back then. You just rooted for them to have a good night and make the feature.

Picture just speaks to me. Looks like Reading opener (which was always a great day). Iconic pair of race cars, Iconic driver. Not much spit and polish for Billy, just looking ready to get it on. Definately my favorite era of Modified racing.

These are both my favorite photos as they show when I spent the summer working on both of the Andrea Racing Team Cars. We won the Islip Speedway Modified Championship with the #1 with Gene Gamache driving.

Pretty sure that I was blessed to see the 292 at Atlantic City and possibly New Egypt on pavement back in day. Great to see all of the memories that are shared in the vault for us to enjoy. Thanks Joe. Mery Christmas.

Joe also asked us to consider a picture that spoke to us. For me, the images of "Bobby's Camera" under Nazareth Speedway Memories are forever powerful. Bobby Bacon took the photos as a young man in 1967 and 1968. He was a fan in the stands like so many of us have been throughout the years. He enjoyed a day at the track with his buddies, cheering on his favorite drivers, looking forward to the next week's race, the next season's races.

He died in South Vietnam in 1969.

page 8a  http://www.3widespicturevault.com/60spics&vitals/08.29.03_029_HEA_WAL_0060_1.htm

gil hearne in raggedy ann # 29-no one better as a complete modified driver on dirt & asphalt doing it with his own $$$-by the time he got wth durkin at wall

he'd forgotten more about short track  racing than most guys will ever know---cut his teeth at hialeah speedway in fl.

probably came close to running every state from florida to maine !!--again , dirt  & asphalt-

the epitome of a modified driver from the 60's & 70's--

I am going to cheat a little- any picture from the lens of Doris Lemasters in that section.  It brings back the Nazareth I knew and loved at the exact time period that formed my love of racing.  They are all so wonderful and taken from the vantage point I had at that time.  I can't pick just one.
