I was there and races are good except for the blocking! Causes was to much wrecking imo. I'd rather see a great battle to the finish than a fight to the line because the whole field wrecked! Just hope it's only on this track. All the classses were the same way. Still had a great time as always. Rather the races during the day as well. kills going to the dirt or asphalt races at night. Just 3 points.

1. I can't help but wonder how happy NASCAR must be feeling knowing that when someone gets a flat tire with these new cars that it will facilatate numerous cautions laps to go out and pick up the car with a wrecker. Thus meaning more time to shove countless commercials down our throats.

2. How does a motor come completely dislodged from an Xfinity car while the outer frame work still appeared to be intact? Complete motor tumbling down the backstretch cause for concern???? I would think so. Seeing as how it was hit directly in the center of the grill by an oncomming car. I wonder what would have been the outcome if it was 12' higher and hit the windshield.

3. I can't imagine how dissapointed dnoldschool must be today because he didn't get his "I told you so moment"

First caught parts watching the Xfinity race while doing something else. Besides the motor being thrown out of the car. The rear and the fuel cell went to. Actually very glad to see the driver get out. Tore a hole in the fence, lucky no fans were standing near it.

Sunday watched a lot of it. Was calling the race the TrashCar500. Between the flip, wrecks and pushing the car in front to get ahead. I would not pay to go watch the race in person. At least Kyle Larson said he made a mistake. Was hoping Blaney pulled it off then but we saw what happened.

At least the outdoor Season starts next week at Lincoln and Georgetown and the Port open in March.

Wokecar lost me 27 yrs ago........the announcers are there only to drum up some excitement, drama  and strategies because there is next to none on the track. I'm a little shocked Smoke is playing into the whole new woke car BS.  Bridgeport, Georgtown, DIS, Grandview here I come

Watched all 3 divisions (little bit of ARCA) via DVR.  I blew threw alot of laps when they're "just riding".  Over the years, I've come to dislike restrictor plate racing less and less.  With NASCAR being the supplier for chassis, its a money maker for them at Daytona and Talledega.  I think the banking at both tracks should be reduced.  Not to the point of being Pocono but where they're not running wide open 100% of the time.  I commend Nascar for doing everything possible regarding safety but I can't help but think somone's going to get seriously hurt, or worse, after seeing the xfinity crash of Myatt Synder.  Hopefully, I'm proven wrong on my opinion.  Scott Ely

First time in along time watched the first 2 Nascar races from beginning to end. I don't know that's because I liked the racing or I'm getting older and watching alot of TV sitting in my recliner. I still wish they'd go to shorter races on shorter tracks both asphalt and dirt. I think a while back Nascar decided to try to change the cars, change the racing format and try to appeal to younger and more diverse competitors and fan base. I don't have any official numbers but unofficially looking at the crowds in the first two races looks like their efforts are paying off.

I watched all 3, and enjoyed them all. The car s flying apart  are going to hurt somebody, fans or drivers. I don't like blocking, they should ban it. It was good to see some of the smaller teams have a good day.

I like the new car. They haven't looked this close to stock since they stretched an '88 Grand Prix to fit a Cup chassis. I dont care about the number placement. I got bigger things to worry about. I like the new wheels alot. I even like that things just break for no reason right now as they sort the new car out. Cant get any more old school than cars just breaking for no reason over a 500 mile race. Smoke was good in the booth. If he had something to say he spoke. If he had nothing to say he kept quiet. The other babbling idiots up there could take a cue from Smoke. Silence is sometimes golden. Still dont like the stages, lucky dogs, chatter about playoffs in race one, playoffs, blocking, Hamlin, Stenhouse or Bubba.

I like Tony Stewart and Clint Bowyer in the booth.

I thought Brad Keselowski should have learned when you push someone if they get out of shape a little to back off, twice......

I thought Bubba Wallace should have been happy with second place, instead he acted upset in his interview

Again, no real insight on this new car. Little or no mention of air pressure adjustments, I didn't notice any  chassis adjustments during pit stops, and what about this new transaxle and A frame rear suspension. Is the new fan base not interested in the mechanical aspects of this sport at all or am I just that old school?

500 - when 21 car got upside down it seemed to be basically a front engine Indy car with a body on it to me. Not a big fan of the new wheel/hub package and the new suspensions definitely will be breaking more than the "old" truck arm set ups in my opinion. I guess the intermediate tracks will be the telling point? Good to see fans back in the stands and great to see that money has now become more important than talent and experience in racing these days (SARCASM).

Watched at least parts of all 3 races.  Never thought I would admit it, but I think open wheel has it right with blocking, 1 move that's it.  I also think if you cause 2 major wrecks by pushing too hard or not lined up right NASCAR should park you for the rest of the race.  Maybe NASCAR could modify the front and rear bumpers so they do not line up at all to eliminate pushing.

Twins used to be a cool afternoon. Races that meant alot more in the past than now. Races, than either off to the short tracks for Thursday night or to the bar and the latter usually won out.

Truck race, because of it's lesser distance, attracts my attention more than all of them.

The 500 needs to be the 500 because it's "The 500", but I drift away from it quite often while they are just running off laps. The announcers just reach for anything to say to keep it entertaining. I've been to Speedweeks maybe twenty times, the 500 once and only half of it.

Thought the races were good.Hate the blocking,if I had been blocked like Ryan was team mate or not Cindric would not have made it back without a tow truck. Don't like the numbers up front hard to read. Looks like the new wheels are a problem fitting and breaking. Great to see some smaller teams run up front. The wreck in the Xfinity race was a scary deal with a piece of the car get stuck in MJ couch grill, thank God it didn't hit anyone. I find it interesting that at the clash they blocked off a large area of the lower seats where cars were topping out at around 70 yet you can park and watch within feet of the track where cars are running close to 200. In wrecks like that engines have been known to get ripped out of the car, I could name 5 or 6 just in the last few years. Parts that are bolted on have been know to break and fly off witch is what sold worry the powers to be about the bolt on front as rear clips oon the new cars. Jmo

Thanks for all the responses.

You guys hit most of what I was thinking.

A few more:

I find it strange that on the one hand, Nascar has very harsh penalties for rules violations when it comes to cars/parts (I guess to be sure of a level playing field), but then they have drivers who literally "unlevel" the playing field by causing wrecks that take out half of their competitors, and can do so currently without fear of being penalized!

Speaking of taking out 1/2 the field, most noticed that Brad K caused two major wrecks resulting in many, many wrecked race cars... Check out the last lap crash off of turn 4, and you'll see that was a little questionable too....  Could it be that seeing his former ride up ahead of him all day contributed to his mindset for the race?  I usually like his style, but it'd be pretty tough to be a Brad K fan after that performance.

Two races in a row that the #8 had a non contact failure (driveline in LA, and rear suspension at Daytona), that neither would have occurred if it wasn't for the new wonder car....  I "wonder" what plans are in place to beef up the rear suspensions to keep these guys from dog tracking after any type of contact to one of the rear wheels.  (Did you guys see Hamlin's #11 crabbin' it's way back to the pits?)  Getting back to the #8, once seeing the replay and having no choice but to agree that the right rear suspension had failed and caused the wreck, just like it says in the Nascar announcing handbook, Boyer or somebody in the booth was quick to clarify, "it was probably damaged from an earlier wreck."..  (just in case any of us were thinking it failed because just maybe it's too weak/poor design that should have been identified and corrected earlier in pre-season testing.)

Speaking of the new car, as noted above, if a car gets a flat and stop on the grass, their day is pretty much over....  Heck, even if they were on the track, if they had 2 flats, I still don't think they could move.  I'm no #22 fan,  but I think he spun through the infield and had no/little damage, but lost laps just because his car was high siding because of  the flats.

It's been a long time since I've seen a tire/wheel bouncing down the track at a superspeedway, but it happened at the Great American Race.  Monday morning quarterbacking here, but that is a direct result of the one lug wheel, and either a fitment issue, or a crew issue.  Either way, definitely a dangerous deal.  (There was another car that broke a wheel that might have been caused by a wheel not put on right too - They never really said....)

Speaking of the announcing crew, we need to do an over under on how many times Clint Boyer says, "Well, like I was saying".... or "Well, like we said before"....  Whatever the over is, take it... You can't lose.  By the way, if it was already said before, is there really a need to say it to us again?  I had to hit the mute button a few times this past Sunday and the funny thing was that I would go for a long time before realizing I was sitting there watching, with no sound on.  My wife walked in the room and asked if there was something wrong with the TV and I said, "No, it's working perfectly."

They announced it was a sold out crowd.  I don't know what the capacity was before they tore down the Tiny Lund backstretch (superstretch lol) stands, but for the stands that remain, it did look like a great crowd...  The Daytona 500 is AN EVENT... and attracts racefans and a lot of folks who aren't hardcore, but like to attend "EVENTS".  I think even with all of Nascars ups and downs, the Daytona 500 has remained one of the few consistently well attended events year after year.  I'll be interested to see what the crowd is like in Fontana.  (For those that use to go to speedweeks in the 70's and 80's, this year looked like a ghost town for the Twins, and I think the truck and Xfinity stands were pretty light too, even though it was probably the best weather speedweeks has enjoyed in over a decade.  Can you guys remember when ISC made us buy seat packages that included Thurs, Sat and Sunday's races if you wanted to keep your Sunday 500 seats on the frontstretch?....  I did that for one or two years so I wouldn't lose my 500 seats in Campbell, and then gave up my season tickets after over 35 years.)

I bitch... but I still watch... kind of.....  Thanks to DVR, I record most Nascar events, and then rush through them usually a few hours delayed.  Like a lot of you, I zoom through all the commercials, all of the non race stuff, then go back to regular speed to watch a little to get a feel for how the race is going...  then fast forward up to a stage break... or a yellow, and then repeat.  It's not enough of a product anymore for me to spend $ to attend in person, and if it wasn't for DVR, there is no way I could sit through all of the commercials and messaging and still enjoy it.

I dunno Joe, we still watch every week. I complain how hokey it is now with scheduled cautions, thuggish driving and overtime seemingly every week now and my wife complains how boring it is these days, but we still watch. Hard for some to break decades-long habits I guess. We're going to Talladega in April, so yeah we still attend. It's still a fun day at the track when we go to a Cup race Loud bright cars going really fast is usually good no matter what. I like to compare attending a NASCAR race now to people whod go to see the Beach Boys at Great Adventure back in the 80s. It's not the guys you remember from your youth, its not as good as it was in your younger days either but its nostalgic and for a few hours you can pretend you're 18 years old again
