B'port is planning on having a half way competition break during the Modified features in 2022. How does everyone feel about this? I can see both sides, but I am old school and prefer 30 laps straight thru. Twin 20's could be an alternative.

How long of a break? Why? Can you change tires? How many laps?

in the article it is stated that the reason for the break is because they have had a lot of features go non-stop and it is too hard on the engines.  Also states that if a yellow comes out due to an on track incident between laps 10 - lap 15, that it will count as the "break" and no additional break will be taken at lap 15.

I think I also read where the cars will be lined up single file for the restart after the break.

Not weighing in with an opinion here.... just passing along some additional info.

Are they trying to imatate Nascar's stage racing? I thought the reconfig from 5/8 to 4/10 was supposed to save the owners $$$. Looks like I will be going to NES and Wall more than B'port this year

I agree with RUCU The smaller configuration was suppose to save motors and equipment.

The racing has been great on the new layout, I say if its not broken, dont fix it!

Yuk is right ! Drivers will probably like it, but I personally don't see the fans enjoying a break or single file restarts after the halfway mark. I personally have not been a fan of what the new owner has done with the track, but with the attendance and reviews, it's evident that my opinion is in the minority. I'm not a weekly attendee, so my opinion doesn't carry the weight of say, Richie Dise, but when an open weekend occurs, I see myself taking my life in my hands and going to Grandview or taking the 2 1/2 hr drive and spending a kings ransom on a hotel room in Middletown before taking the 1 hour jaunt to Bridgeport. I believe that they have a STSS race on their schedule that I will definitely attend.

PS. Watch you don't break a hip getting down to the pisser, Ed!

As an attendee at Bridgeport almost every week it makes this no sense no matter what side you're on. I've felt for a while that they should go to a crate type engine for the Northeast type modifieds. With all the modern technology out there, many of it on production cars right now for developing HP  one of the major auto manufacturers could produce an engine close to the HP that they're and more reliable than the engines they're using now. So instead they're trying to squeeze high HP out of 70's technology. the only people this would hurt are the egine builders.

If they can't change tires at the break, I have no probelm with it.  If tires mean something, you can bet the "big" teams will throw at least a new right rear on.   I guess that may also increase the concession revenues a tad, which I also have no probelm with.  Scott Ely

The happy speak in the article claims that it is to "Give the drivers, motors and the fans a chance to catch their breath and to restack the field for a run (to) the checkered flag."

The article also includes:  "We will take a break at lap 15 and pace a few laps to settle things down."

Like I said, I'm just providing the information, you guys can provide the commentary!

I think this is kind of ridiculous!  I was thinking what if they ran twin 20s, run the first 20 lap mod feature then run the sportsman feature and finish up with the second mod feature.  With bonuses going to a driver who wins both features.

JMO PS:  I know its 5 additional laps but I think they can handle that

STUPID!

Hoping to get to the new configuration this year when the Sprints are the primary division. Those shows typically include the Mods so I can deal with it one time.

Could be a way to ruin a great race.

Its been a long time since you didnt need 3 new tires every race/week unless your happy running 7th or worse anywhere except when East Windsor was open.. If they can put new tires on during the brake that will kill the saturday nite racer unless he hits the lotto?? Not a fan for stopping the show..HtH

I waited to weigh in with my thoughts, and glad I did as you guys brought up a lot of good points that I enjoyed reading.

My initial thought is that maybe they are getting pressure from some of the top teams that have to start near the back and who without the aid of a caution, do not feel they have enough time to get to the front.  I know that's got to be frustrating, but that's also been part of racing for.... well, at least it used to be.

Maybe it's more simple than that....  Nascar started with their calculated competition cautions, and SRX came up with "Green Flag Limit Has Been Hit" cautions, which do nothing but juice up the game because... well..., because it's entertainment and because they can.  So much for the integrety of the race.

I'm a traditionalist, and would rather see no break - run it through and let the real cautions fall where they may.  Some races will run straight through... some won't.  I'm fine with that as long as it happens organically.

The other issue is that there is no such thing as a quick pit stop at Bridgeport now that the pits are on the outside of turn 1, but the track exit is at the entrance to turn 3.  (So if pit stops are in play, well... as they put it, everyone will have plenty of time to "catch their breath" and then some, as I am sure they will not go back to green until every single car who had pitted, and made their changes, had made their way back out to the track and got lined back up.)

"Breaks" that interupt green flag racing have been an issue for me in recent years, once I realized that tracks seemingly overnight decided it was ok for a driver to stop... bring out the caution.... go to the pits and change a tire/other... while the rest of the field, and all of the spectators wait for their return.  How many race outcomes were determined because instead of pulling into the infield as maybe they should have, the driver stopped on the track to intentionally bring out the yellow (then headed to the pits), restacking the field, and you know the rest.

I'm not a weekly Bridgeport fan (was there 3 times last year I think) but I am interested to hear what some of the Bridgeport Frequent Flyer fans have to say.

Not sure I`m gonna like this idea  I hope they don`t allow pit stops

Wall has those long pit stops during the Turkey Derby and it kills the mojo sometimes

Possible its for the older drivers to catch their breath ?

Once again, Doug Rose shooting himself in the foot.  I thought the idea of the smaller track was to tighten up the competition and save wear and excessive strain on the motors.  Now the racers are running the "big" small blocks, running them at higher rpm's and basically creating their own issues.  Might as well go back to the 5/8 track, mandate all big blocks for the Modifieds, and let the racers race.  Quit trying to make things better.  It doesn't work.  If Doug really wants to do something good for the racers, figure out how to prepare the track so the cars aren't burning off 3 tires every feature.  With the current costs, there won't be many cars left by half way through the year. JMO

Seems to me the cost of motors is the single biggest cost factor in the sport.  I can remember Chamberlain, or Ploski, running the Big Donkey at Windsor with a 500+ cu. in. OHV Ford, which I heard was not a super high priced motor.   The Chevies would be purring pretty hard by the end of the straights, but not the Donkey.  Gerry or Stan would throw her high aand hard in the turns trying to keep her wound up! Usually worked.  I believe Stan holds the record for consecutive Windsor wins at 10, in the Donkey! My point is cheaper, less powerful motors would also be easierr on tires, as well as the drive chain.  Just my opinion.  Scott Ely
