Anybody know how the new drive train on the cup cars work from the engine to the rear wheels. Maybe They could show how it works on thwe cutaway racers. For Example what happened when the 11 car had its problem. Jim Hall GSVSCC

I think when Hamlin was trying to slow down for pit lane, he downshifted from high gear to 1st and the transmission didn't appreciate it (?) Undecided

Thanks for the link, it was very informative.  Stock car drive train technology has come a long way from the early days when they welded spur gears.

Too complex, what was wrong with a clutch and a 4 speed manual transmission? No way that this is saving the owners any $$$. Why did NASCAR have to re-invent the wheel for the 5th or 6th time???

I've heard Cup Series team owners expect to new car to pay for itself in 3-4 years. I forget who it was but somebody backed a Next Gen car hard into the fence and it was back on the track the next day. Someone on the telecast said with the old car that wrecked car would be unavailable for a couple months before they had time to put a new rear clip on it. Austin Dillon also wrecked hard at Charlotte in preseason testing. They hauled the mess back to RCR and it too was back on the track the next day. The days of needing 20-25 car fleets was unsustainable. Especially when the car you raced in the spring was often needing massive upgrades by the time they ran the fall race at the same track. It had gotten to be like the good old bad old days of CART where last years model was worthless junk even if it never got a scratch all season long. How many of us have heard to avoid buyin the first model year of any new car so they can work all the bugs out? They're working all the bugs out in real time. I dislike so much about NASCAR these days, but I got no problem with this new car.

Thanks Lenny for the update for some of us that don't follow it that close...Just a side note as one of my friends works in a cup shop and he says the cars are junk...Not quite how he put it but this is printable..Somboby else said that trans axle costs $30/40,000...How many do they need?? Someone destroyed one last week when knocked out of gear to do plug check...Maybe they dont oil in neutral is my guess...I'll watch the short tracks, thank you..HtH
