Ray and I were rookies at Flemington in 79 and became good friends through the 80's.

Raymond was fearless.

I miss him a good deal.

Ray's cars were always sharp looking so I'll bet this was his first ride. So much for the back gate.

This was 1978, the year before Ray and I ran rookies. Probably only time he ran, it was orange, almost certain it was a different car than he ran in 1979.

It had to be, Ray's rookie car (blue one) was Fred DeGroot's old 305. Fred ran that car in '78. Rumor was Ray bought a motor for that car from Jack Tant and it was stout!

I never realized this was the former Fred DeGroot #305 until John Mc told me a few years back, and I then keyed in on the huge rear wheel openings that I remembered from DeGroot's #305.
