Last minute, I decided to go to Bridgeport for their triple 40 lappers.  Glad I did.  The modified portion was a good race with a not surprising finish.  The late models had a light field of, I believe 16 cars.  BUT the short field put on a hell a show!  They really twist those alumium motors and fly around the new Bridgeport.   The speedsters also put on a pretty good show with a late lead change after a restart.  The track was a little dusty but better than my last visit.  The track also developed a couple a routs in the corners but didn't have a major affect on the racing.  Overall, I give Bridgeport an A- for their 7/5 racing.  Scott Ely

Sorry John, you're right!  They ran on July 3rd.  Ryan Godown won the modified 40 lapper.  $5000 to win, but Godown put up the $250 gambler's fee, which doubled Godown's winnings ($10,000!).  Apparently this was an idea of the late Danny Serrano.  He was Bridgeport's track manager up until his passing.  They announced that Danny never had the chance to implement his gamblers fee idea and that promotor Doug Rose felt this was a great race to try it out.  The super late models had a late race restart that saw 2nd place Rick Eckert and the leader (#11, can't recall the drivers name) collide with Eckert rolling over on his roof.  The 11 was done for the night and, after getting righted, Eckert continued.  Eckert started last with 6 or 7 cars left.  In the remaining 6 laps, Eckert showed that being on his top didn't hurt the performance of # 0.  I recall that he took the lead with either 2 to go, or on the last lap.  Again, a short field, but they put on a great show.  "The Kids Kid" won the speedster feature with a last lap pass after a late caution flag.  Scott Ely

P.S.  At least I got the month right!

Great report Scott! Thx for the info... I think Danny got the gambler's fee idea from one of the southern tracks he attended...and he attended a lot of them!

Scott : It was the #F1 Colby Frye that flipped on the restart after chopping down in front of Eckert and making contact. Eckert drove to the Pit I think he only had a flat.

Feel preety dumb about stating that Rick Eckert wound up on his roof when it was another car (since I was there).  Still, a nice comeback by Eckert!  DON, I always enjoy the 4 bangers as they usually put on a great show.  However, 7/3 was pretty much a runaway by one of the Dunns over a small field of cars.  I believe less than 10.  For me, the feel good part of the 4 cylinders was the # K-9 (painted like a police, with grill mounted blue/red flashing lights) passing several cars in the late going to finish 3rd.  Don't recall the officer's, I mean, driver's name but it was announced he lives right next to Bport!  When leaving the track, his house is the very 1st (and maybe the only) house on the left.  He's only 30 feet from the first entrance to the track!

Again, sorry for the mis-information regarding the late model finish.  I blame my confusion on all the late models involved in the late accident being red.

Thats my story and I'm sticking to it!  Scott Ely
