1972 New Jersey State modified champion Ollie Butler would have been 87 today. Still greatly missed by so many of his family and friends. Happy birthday Ollie!

I remember my father telling me about the respect he had for Oliver Butler. You'll never meet a nicer family

I don't think there is any way of capturing the ratio between nights that were "great finishes" and nights that ended up on the back of a wrecker, but from my years of watching Oliver Butler race in the late 60's and into the 70's, he had to be at the top of this list in a good way.

When he didn't win, he was top 5...  Very rarely ended up on the wrecker.  Will always remember him as a very successful "gentleman" racer.  Lots of great runs behind the wheel of the red Siliman (sp?) #4, and the Fred Menschner silver #21.

Thanks for posting the pictures Rick.

Ollie was what every owner could hope for.  Many times he came in from a heat or feature race and would tell me those guys in front of me were soo squirrley I didn't want to take a chance on crashing. He always protected his equipment. This comes from building and owing his own equipment. What a gentleman after every feature he would say to me lets go over and congatulate the winner. We had sooooo much fun with him and his entire family during our racing days. Ollie was aggessive when it was required and cautious when things in front of him put his equipment in danger. We won a few and always finished in the top Five if our equipment did not break. Remember we ran three nights a week and our crew did this as a part time hobby.

Ollie was a great friend and one hell of a driver and I miss every day.

Fred Menschner.
