So everything that has been happening around Bubba Wallace and a high percentage of people who disapprove of his penalty got me thinking. Here is the question: Do you remember anything that happened at the track and if there was a penalty involved? Any stories? What happened at the track (fight in pits, track, accident, etc) Was there anything done about it? I have a feeling a lot has changed from many years ago on how drivers handled different situations Thanks T-Hem |

2 at Flemington in the 60's. Will Cagle penalized (I think for rough riding) and he parks his car broadside on the frontstretch and walks away (hence, my Uncle called him the Tampa Temper). Car towed and he's banned forever, only to return. Sammy Beavers in the Horton 43 disqualified for (oil pan, I think) being too low to the ground. Heads to Middletown for a week or 2 to make a point but returns and wins. |

I have been a race director at two tracks and have always told the drivers I didn't car who they were if you break the rule you will deal with the result. The problem has been at both tracks when I suspended the track champ and the other guy who were fighting the promoters let the track favorite back the next week and kept the other guy out. This happened in Nj and Nc.and in each case when I told the drivers what happened I was asked to leave. So I all comes down to who you are and who's ass you kiss. I both case the other drivers have come to me and said I was the fairest guy they ever had but that didn't matter to management. |

Have just two stories. Both involve Gary Balough driving 73. The first is the one D. Wolfe-358 spoke of. Don't remember the year but in the Seventies on a rainy Super Dirt Week (yes they all involved rain) on the morning of race day Gary pushed a porta John with a rental car and damaged it. DIRT said he would not race that day unless he payed for it. My father payed the bill and Gary was reinstated. The other one I'm sure some of you remember when Gary gave the starter at Nazareth the one finger salute and of course the fans as well. He was told to never come back. I believe that one required my Grandfather to have a sit down with Jerry Fried. |

I really don't know how much it was. I hope we won that year so dad and Uncle Ronny could get some of it back. |

It would be either 1978 in the fall or 1979. 1978 was the first time I went to Syracuse. If that helps determine the year it happened. |

Pee Wee was banned from EWS for the rest of that year and the entire next season for the infamous Joe Kelly incident. Thinking mid 1968 and entire 1969 season or 69 and 70? Don't know if the State of NJ was involved in the penalty as he did drive the race car on city streets - down Airport Road through town and back to the garage. |

Charlie Saunders with the #4 pulling his trailer and back-up car onto the front straight @ Nazareth and parking it right under Ken Golden's flag stand...I think Jerry set the team down for a month... |
