THE EPITOME OF A GREAT MODIFIED DRIVER !!! got to watch him at many tracks over the years , but while racing modern stocks at new egypt in the '70's , was thrilled to watch him " up close and personal " what a pro driver !! one night in a NASCAR modified 100 lapper , he and jerry cook ran door handle to door handle for about 40 laps , NEVER TOUCHED !! evans gained an inch per lap and finally got by jerry --one of the greatest modified racing exhibition i ever saw !! 2 pros going at it !! blessings !! bill |

I think this is the best photo i have of Richie.The photo was taken just before the start of the Bud 200 lap race at Oswego in 1984.I have the photo.

Watched him for about 3 years in the early 80's when I raced at New Egypt in the Moderns. He was a great driver probably the best all time asphalt modified driver . |

Was lucky enough to watch him weekly at Shangri-La. Last race he ever ran there - 1985 Southern Tier 200 - he made an absolutely beautiful pass of George Kent to take the lead (eventually won). Kept looking to the high side out of 2, George kept moving up to block the pass, went on for 5 or 6 laps. Then faked going high and dove past George on the inside. Set him up perfectly. He wasn't just fast, he was calculating, and apparently there are dozens of stories untold for every one that was told about him after the races and away from the track. Bones Bourcier's book is a great read. |
