Questions for John Mac .  Why did your dad start driving , why did he stop being car owner , and when and why did he retire from driving ?  Thanks ,  JOE BOKROS

I guess him and Fred DeGroot were somehow partners on the 301 when Ed drove it. After Ed left for the 9 rather then hiring another driver they both decided they each wanted to try driving so dad kept the 301 and they built a new car for Fred which was the black Falcon. Why Fred started right out with a modified I have no idea.

He (dad) quit soon after the ban from Flemington after the Harry Dee incident. Ran Nazareth a few times, blew a motor and that was it. Pulled the motor out and put the car in a 1 car garage at the house and it sat there for 4 years. People asked him "Why don't you put your kid in it?" He said which one, I have 4 boys, lol. That was also about the time modifieds were getting pretty pricey and I also think his health was starting to be an issue, although he didn't admit to it. I guess he figured it was time.
