They ain't figured out yet that the Cali crowd don't give a rats rear about racing especially on a Saturday night.

I too noticed the light crowd. I mean its only practice and time trials but I doubt there was 2000 people there. I found it ironic that Kyle Busch ran 2nd quick and the car he would have been in if he stayed at JGR caught fire and couldn't time trial. People like to say racing at the Coliseum is a gimmick and they're right. But I'm sure people said the same thing at the first Busch Clash in 1979 and they were right too. It is dumb to make everyone go to LA when they could just race at Daytona however. Especially considering they have to go right back to the West Coast in a couple weeks.

If they want a LITTLE track they should have stayed local and raced at Bowman Grey in Winston/Salem.. They might still have a few fans in the south...50s weather so wear a coat..Also I think its bigger than the Colisium?

crowds for practice and qualifying for whatever reason died several years ago . In fact Na#car’s popularity has had a steep drop. Although it appears to have stabilized and may be growing a little. When attendance and tv viewership began to drop I thought rule changes and fake cautions and other bs was the culprit. I’ve changed my thoughts in this. I now believe that an aging fan base and the disinterest young people may be a leading factor. I actually think that these factors are affecting all of Auto racing. Many short tracks are not doing well. The car culture as a lot of us are very familiar with has died.

$287 for RR tire for a dirt modified? By August they'll be lucky to have 15 modifieds in the pits.

Agree 100% Mdracer. I always make it point to look for kids and young adults. Sometimes I think at 58 I'm one of the younger ones....

Saturday's "event" will be a concert, interupted by some noisy annoying racecars at times.

They'll never admit to it but I bet they give away more tickets than they sell.

If it's like last year, watch the show producer going nuts trying to get the cameraman cameraperson (after all, it is California...) to find anybody in the crowd that even momentarily looks like they are actually there for a race, rather looking bored to tears... staring at their phone, or a bunch or rowdy college kids wondering when the music is going to start.

You may think it's a wee bit early, but I'm sure the promo's are already being worked on proclaiming what a huge success the 2023 event was.... and how because of it's overwhelming success, they are pleased to announce it's return for 2024.

I read yesterday it may become a points paying race in 2024 because the "new" remodel of the California 2 mile track won't be done and it will be the only Cup race in Cali next year.

I hate getting down on Nascar, but they really believe their own bullshit!  They talk up stuff likes it's the greatest, most successful thing going, than in three years after it had failed, they tell you how much it failed and how much money they lost.  It's been going on for years but, the COT really proved it to me.

I've  DVR'd the race and will probably zip thru the commercials, and maybe parts of the race.  And I might not watch it at all.  I do agree with MDracer regarding his comment that "the kids"  aren't really interested in Nascar.  Most of the folks I see driving Supras, Camaros and Mustangs are feeding their "mid life crisis".  The kids seem to like their Hondas. Acuras and Nissans with the low suspensions and wings on the trunk lids.  I think thats why Nascar tried rear wings instead of spoilers for awhile, to attract the kids.  it didn't work, plus the cars were "taking off"  when they got going backwards.  Give em credit for trying, but with no success as yet.  Scott Ely

As I just texted to a buddy , They could have saved so much money by running this race (Show) at Shelheimer's in Leesport, Pa. instead of sending all teams to CA !! :)

I think Bowman Gray would have been a better choice...the old Madhouse tv broadcasts were a lot more entertaining.  The Sunday night feature was a lot less boring than many of those 1 1/2 mile track races though.

Capacity for the L.A. Coliseum is listed at 77,500.  Front rows appeared to be blocked off with banners for safety.  Maybe a quarter full?  that would be less than 20,000?  What ever it was, it was very painful to watch.  That was 4 hours of my life I'll never get back.

Not really, only during a few commercials, did I flip the channel to Fox for a minute or two. I did see Truex shove Ryan Preece out of the way for the lead. Don't care for that style of racing.
